Intertextual references of the ska genre in our music video
This is a video by the specials for their single 'Ghost Town'. The Specials are an 70's successful ska band. This single Ghost Town made number one in 1983. They have had success in other well known singles such as 'Free Nelson Mandela' and 'Too Much Too Young'. For our Music video we want to show the influences of ska through costume and camera angles allowing our video to be a tribute to the famous ska genre.
This low angle shot of high buildings make them appear empowering and dominating. We would want to incorporate this camera technique into our video as it makes the scene look a lot more interesting and one of our ideas is to include iconic scenes of Norwich for example the castle and the Forum. Therefore by using this low angle technique it allows the buildings to be viewed from a different prospectus.
This close up of the band in the car represents their entrapment of this 'Ghost Town' which they are in. We are looking to include shots from within a car to show as many different destinations of Norwich as we can and make it appear as though these drumsticks have been going around Norwich all day.
The video is constantly showing close ups of the artists faces while they are in the car. This helps the audience know who the main focus is of the the video. Therefore when it comes to shooting my own video I will need to use close ups of the band members to let the audience know who the band are, this will help strengthen band promotion as well allow the audience to understand the narrative of the video.
To stress again, look at the way close ups are used in this example from "Ghost Town"...this is what is lacking in the first cut of your music video. Well done for incuding these references.
